This policy explains what information the MeTont app ("we", "us", "our app") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. MeTont helps you discover and connect with Albanian-owned businesses — browsing the map, business listings, community events, and job postings does not require an account. Creating an account is only needed to interact: writing a review, adding a business, posting an event, saving favorites, or posting a story.
Information we collect
We collect only what's needed to run the app's features:
- Account information — your email address and password when you create an account. Passwords are never stored by us in readable form; they're securely hashed by Firebase Authentication, the service that manages sign-in for the app.
- Location — with your permission, your device's GPS location, used to show nearby businesses on the map and calculate distances. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the app still works without it, just without location-based features.
- Photos — images you choose to upload when adding a business, posting a story, or updating a business listing.
- Content you create — business listings, reviews and ratings, replies, favorites, stories, community events, and job postings you post through the app.
- Business information — if you register a business, the details you provide about it: name, category, description, address, phone number, email, website, and hours.
How we use this information
- To operate core features — showing the map, business listings, reviews, events, jobs, and stories.
- To let you sign in and manage your own content.
- To show your approximate distance from nearby businesses.
- To review claims when someone requests ownership of an existing business listing.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
Where your information is stored
MeTont is built on Firebase, Google's app development platform. Your account, content, and uploaded photos are stored using Firebase Authentication, Firebase Firestore, and Firebase Storage, all hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure with industry-standard security practices.
What's visible to other people
Business listings, reviews, replies, community events, job postings, and stories you post are publicly visible to anyone browsing the app, including people who haven't created an account. Your favorites list and account profile are private and visible only to you.
Your choices
- You can browse most of the app — the map, business listings, events, and job postings — without ever creating an account.
- You can delete content you've posted (such as a review or story) from within the app.
- You can revoke location permission at any time in your device's settings.
Delete your account
To request deletion of your MeTont account and data:
Email admin@metont.com from the email address associated with your account, with the subject line "Account deletion request". Include the email you signed up with so we can locate your account.
We'll process your request within 30 days. This deletes your account (email and login credentials), your profile, and your saved favorites. Content you've posted publicly — business listings, reviews, replies, stories, events, and job postings — is deleted along with your account.
You don't need to delete your account to stop using the app — you can simply stop using it at any time, and browsing the map, business listings, and events never requires an account in the first place.
Children's privacy
MeTont is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
